Facilities Planning's primary role is to oversee University improvements to ensure compliance with the Campus Master Plan. We also manage advance planning for programming of Capital Projects and coordinate space management in cooperation with the Associate Provost for Institutional Research.
We prepare preliminary budgets for short and long term planning of Capital Projects, Repair and Renovation for appropriated and non-appropriated projects.
Other responsibilities include compliance to and updating the Campus Design Guidelines, providing guidance concerning circulation, landscaping, signage and all other site planning related issues. Working with the Chancellor's and Provosts' Office and other Divisions of the University a coordinated effort is achieved resulting in a uniform design of the campus.
Facilities Planning supports the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in the development of its Capital Outlay program for construction, major improvements, renovations and repair of buildings and facilities. Capital Outlay programs are developed on a biennial basis, generally, and are submitted for General Administration, General Assemble, and the Board of Governors action during legislative sessions. The program submission includes a detailed justification and programmatic study for each project proposed.
Planning also reviews architectural design of new buildings and exterior renovations, open space, plazas, landscape architecture elements, planting plans, signage, and all other site planning issues. Working with the Chancellor's Office and other University Divisions, a coordinated effort is achieved resulting in a uniform design of the campus.
