Kudos to these contractors for exceptional recycling efforts on campus projects:

Construction and Demolition Recycling
What is Construction and Demolition Recycling?
Construction and
Demolition (C&D) materials are the materials that are used by
contractors that are doing construction or renovations work on
buildings. C&D debris includes any materials that are removed from work
sites during the process of construction, demolition, or renovation
work. C&D debris includes just about any material that is used in
building projects:

Carpet
Ceiling TileConcrete
Drywall/Sheetrock
Insulation
Metal
PVC Pipe
Shingles
Wood

Materials like asphalt, dirt, rock, stone, and land clearing debris (trees and brush) are also included in C&D recycling, even though they are not actual building materials.
A C&D Recycling Program works to keep waste materials from these projects out of the landfills. Many of the materials that are used in these projects can easily be reused or recycled into other building materials. Click here to see what recyclables are turned into.
C&D contractors have been recycling some materials on their own for many years. Metal can bring in revenue when it is kept separate from other materials, so large amounts are worth recycling. Asphalt and concrete weigh a lot, and it is much less expensive to recycle large amounts of them than it is to landfill them. Click here to see why recycling C&D materials is important.
There are a number of policies and regulations that affect how C&D materials are handled and disposed of. Click here to see the legal aspects of C&D recycling.

Welcome to the UNCC Recycles website. Started by students in 1990, recycling began with a can collection program. Not long afterwards, Witherspoon Hall became the first residence hall to take part. In 15 years we have grown to 14 employees and now recycle over 40 items. We also operate a composting program, an award winning construction and demolition recycling / re-use program, and environmental education on and off campus.
