February - Round three of "The Green Mile." -  Recycling wars continue between Moore and Sanford

February - Take it or Leave it Tour -  It's simple, get free stuff, bring stuff to the table.  It's a mini yard sale for free.  The idea is to reduce waste on campus by passing on gently used items.  We will be visiting residence halls throughout the spring.  Check back soon for the schedule

Overview of Events

As our university continues to grow, promoting our recycling program is vital to its growth.  Therefore we have events and programs throughout the year.  Our biggest event, Earth Day, is held every April at the Belk Tower.  Our office brings in outside vendors and allows them to showcase their products and services to the general public.  We had our first Earth Day event in 1992 and it continues to grow!  If you are interested in participating, please feel free to contact us.  2008 PHOTOS

One of our fall events is Campus Sustainability Week.  It is held in October and focuses on getting the word out about environmental sustainability on campus.  To learn more about UNC Charlotte's Sustainability program, visit their website.

Our Campus Cleanup was a huge success -  We had over 200 volunteers and collected over 1000 pounds of trash.  Click here for a news story and here to see photos.

America Recycles day takes place in November.  What's that about?  Well recycling of course.  Come out to the Belk Tower to see what's going on.  We usually have BIG giveaways during that time.

The "Take it or Leave it" tour is designed to promote re-use on campus.  It begins in February 2009 - It's a tour because we visit all of the residence halls on campus and bring items with us.  The concept is that if you have material that is still in good condition that you don't want anymore, you can donate it to the recycling department.  In turn, we bring those items around campus and give them away for free.  It cuts down on waste leaving the campus and as they say, one person's trash is another persons treasure.  Check back soon for our fall schedule.

Recycling Wars, "The Green Mile" - Moore vs Sanford.  Beginning in the spring of 2008, we began a recycling competition between Moore hall and Sanford hall.  The battle will continue this year.  The goal is to see who can recycle the most over a period of three months.  Sanford got the best of Moore in Round 1.  Moore rebounded to win round two.   Round 3 begins in February 2009!

Welcome to the UNCC Recycles website.  Started by students in 1990, recycling began with a can collection program.  Not long afterwards, Witherspoon Hall became the first residence hall to take part.  In 15 years we have grown to 14 employees and now recycle over 40 items.  We also operate a composting program,  an award winning construction and demolition recycling /        re-use program, and environmental education on and off campus.
