Partners

The following partners are key components of the UNC Charlotte sustainability program. Without the involvement, dedication and expertise of the following groups we would not be in a position to progress with our sustainability program at UNC Charlotte.

The Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling:

Recycling at UNC Charlotte began as a student led initiative in 1990. Through out the years, it has grown from a program that focused on one item (cans), to a program that now collects and recycles over 40 different materials.  The department has 9 full time Recycling Technicians that service over 1000 bins per week.  They also have a Construction and Demolition recycling program, composting program, and an environmental awareness program.  The environmental awareness program called "Keep Charlotte Green", focuses on educating people about such issues as water conservation, energy conservation, and anti litter programs.

Environmental Assistance Office for Small Business: As a part of the Global Institute of Energy and Environmental Systems group (GIEES), we are located at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte in the Cameron Applied Research Center room 258.  Our goal at the EAO is to increase effective pollution prevention practices in the Charlotte area by bringing together talented students and faculty and to team up with government agencies and small businesses sharing the common goal of pollution prevention

The EAO for small business provides non-regulatory, client-confidential pollution prevention assistance to small businesses in the greater Charlotte region. The office staff can provide you with timely assistance for pollution prevention planning, including information about industry-specific case studies, waste specific case studies, and new technologies. Your small business advocate also works to reduce the regulatory burdens that federal policies impose on small firms and to maximize the benefits small businesses receive from government.

Environmental Academy:

The UNC-Charlotte Environmental Academy was established to bring faculty with common interests in environmental issues and research together for dialogue and shared activities. Over the years the Academy has sponsored lectures, participated in campus environmental programs, initiated the development of the Environmental Assistance Office for Small Business, and fostered research collaborations. Academy meetings are held once each semester to allow networking and collaborative sessions.

The Academy is now administered through the Environmental Assistance Office, where it continues to promote faculty dialogue about research, student and faculty development opportunities, and campus outreach. Academy meetings are held once each semester to allow networking and collaborative sessions.

Earth Club
