With UNC Charlotte being the size of a small town that supports over 30,000 people with roads, residences workplaces, stores, parks, recreation, and of course, schools, the campus has real-world issues that can benefit from research and projects by students and faculty.
Capstone Projects have become a common assessment tool in higher education and offer a chance for graduating students to prove they can apply their education. We want to increase their impact by giving them real-world problems that can also improve our campus.
Student Groups also seek out opportunities to get hands on experience such as volunteering to build gardens and repair streams. In 2015 - 2016, we sponsored several capstone projects including a solar power feasibility study and an alternative transportation (bicycle) assessment. Students interested in developing solutions for the campus and community with their capstone projects are encouraged to reach out to the sustainability office for any assistance that may need to be provided.
