Energy:

I will turn off my computer, monitor and speakers at the end of the day

I will turn off my monitor when away from my desk

When leaving a room I will turn off lights

I will replace any incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescents

I will take the stairs and instead of the elevator

I will unplug any chargers when not in use

I will turn off and unplug electronic devices when not in use

I will follow the university temperature set guidelines

Water:

I will not leave taps running when brushing my teeth or doing the washing

I will keep my showers to under five minutes

I will use cold water to do laundry

I will drink tap water and not bottled water

I will report any leaks as I see them

I will use cold water to wash my hands

Participation:

I will participate in campus clean-up (April and October)

I will visit earth day events on campus (April)

I will abide by the campus smoking policy

I will join a campus green team - this may turn people off from signing, if it is not clear how to join a 'green team'

Labs:

I will close fume hood sashes

I will share information on resource efficient lab supplies with colleagues and classmates

I will turn off non-essential lab equipment when not in use (confirm with lab manager when necessary)

I will recycle plastic pipette tip boxes

I will aim to find less toxic chemical alternatives for my research

I will take one additional step to "green" my lab practices every semester and share this information

Commuting:

I will car share to go eat at least once a week

I will use the campus shuttle to move around campus instead of my car

I will use Hertz Connect service for short journeys

I will use the campus bus if it services my off-campus apartment complex

I will use teleconferencing facilities to reduce travel for at least 3 meetings per year

Waste:

I will print double-sided

I will only print email when absolutely necessary

I will use reusable mugs and bottles for beverages

I will use the Clam Shell for take out food on campus

I will use reusable shopping bags

I will recycle

Food:

I will reduce my food waste in the dining hall

I will buy local foods when possible

I will utilize the campus farmers market

I will choose fair trade and organic

I will choose sustainably harvested fish from sea watch

I will eliminate meat from at least one meal per week

I will choose products with minimal packaging
