Pursuing Excellence in Facilities Management

Overview

Over the next year, UNC Charlotte's Department of Facilities Management will conduct a comprehensive self-evaluation and continuous improvement initiative.  Led by Phil Jones, Associate Vice Chancellor of Facilities Management, the program will use the Association of Physical Plant Administrators (APPA) criteria as the benchmark to assess its current programs and delivery of services.

The primary intent of this effort is to:

  • confirm and build upon FM's strengths
  • better understand how it measures success and explore new methods for doing so
  • profile achievements and
  • target areas for improvement against national and industry best standards

The culmination of this effort will be a usable management and operational roadmap that will connect directly to FM's current five-year strategic plan and guide it through that planning process. This roadmap will be used to achieve superior policies, practices and programs and services in FM's efforts to create and sustain a "Campus of Distinction" at UNC Charlotte.
