Facilities recently replaced all old Belk Tower lights with new LED fixtures. The new lights array cost $6,700.00 and use only about 15% of the power of the old array. The expected savings is over $1,500.00 per year, with energy savings expected to cover the cost in approximately four years.

Facilities is currently “doing a lot of building control improvements and toilet replacements, in addition to lighting replacements,” said Tony Schallert, energy manager for Facilities Management. The new fixtures will require no maintenance for 20 years, whereas old fixtures needed new bulbs every two years.
