Retirement reception for Phil Jones scheduled

Date:
July 24, 2018

Phil M. Jones, associate vice chancellor for facilities management, will retire on August 31 after nearly 18 years of service.

A retirement reception in his honor will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Friday, August 17, in the third floor salons of the James H. Barnhardt Student Activity Center.

As the AVC-FM, Jones oversees all capital planning and construction, facilities maintenance, utilities, custodial operations, real estate, and sustainability efforts at the University.  Since his arrival, FM has experienced its highest growth from 252 positions in 2000 to over 460 to date.

Capital construction during his tenure has been the largest in UNC Charlotte’s history including creation of the Charlotte Research Institute campus, a football stadium complex, and reshaping the campus master plan.  University capital construction, over the last decade, exceeded $1 billion and included the addition of over three million square feet.

Earlier this year, at the 37th annual State Construction Conference, Jones received the Frank B. Turner Award in recognition of his professional contributions to the built environment.

Individuals who plan to attend the reception should RSVP by Friday, August 3 here; or by email to Beverly Imes at brimes@uncc.edu.
