CAMPUS SUSTAINABILITY WEEK: Yoga in the Gardens  (RAINED OUT, MOVED TO FRIDAY 10/18)

University Recreation leads an outdoor yoga session in the Botanical Gardens. This session will be standing yoga, so no mats needed. Chartwells Dining Services will provide beverages and food for participants.

CAMPUS SUSTAINABILITY WEEK: Student Gathering

Wed., October 16, 6-8pm
Student Union Back Patio

The third annual Student Gathering, sponsored by the Charlotte Green Initiative (CGI, your student green fund). Join them for pizza eating and pumpkin carving. This event brings together student organizations and interested students to meet and discuss projects to make the campus more sustainable.  CGI will share their proposal process as they head into their 10th year.   

CAMPUS SUSTAINABILITY WEEK: Campus Cleanup

McMillan Greenhouse (10am-2 pm), Motorsports Lab (10am-2 pm), Holshouser Hall (10am-6pm), Lynch Hall (2-6pm)

Organized by the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling.  Volunteer as an individual or bring a group. This is a great way to give back to your UNC Charlotte community, gain service hours, or get some exercise walking around campus. Snacks will be provided for volunteers, as well as gloves, bags, and litter sticks to get the job done. Multiple locations around campus.  NEW THIS YEAR: later hours for Residents!

PLANTS, PALETTES, AND PIXELS

Thursdays Through October 24, 9am-Noon
Botanical Gardens

Plants, Palettes, and Pixels is a weekly opportunity for artists to utilize the UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens for their drawing, painting, etc.  Bring your easel, your canvas, or your sketchbook. Artists are welcome to stay later than noon, and are encouraged to bring their lunch and gather informally with other artists at the picnic tables in the Idesia Grove of the Harwood Garden.   No pre-registration required; $10 donation requested. Please sign in at the McMillan Greenhouse across from the outdoor gardens.

Join environmental educator, Carla Vitez for a unique tour in the Van Landingham Glen. Get to know eight of our most majestic native species through the words of naturalist Donald Peattie as Carla’s interpretation blends botany, history, and the human connection to these forest icons. This program is FREE but registration is required to reserve your spot: Email Wendy Wilson at wwilso35@uncc.edu.

WOMEN IN CLEAN ENERGY

October 24, 5pm-7pm
EPIC Atrium, first floor

The Energy Production and Infrastructure Center is sponsoring this event for the NC Sustainable Energy Association's Women in Clean Energy project.  WICE's goal is to foster a network of support, camaraderie, and opportunity for self-identifying women in the North Carolina clean energy industry. This networking event will include a tour of the EPIC building's environmentally-sustainable features that earned LEED-Gold certification. Register for the event with NCSEA.

UNC Charlotte is a frequent event partner with Sustain Charlotte.  Though we are not a stop on the route this year, don't miss one of their signature events, Biketoberfest.  For details, see the event website.  You and your bike can reach the event from campus by light rail.
