Construction projects will have impacts on campus, including changing pedestrian, bike, and vehicle routes and creating additional activity on and around campus.  We are committed to maintaining a safe and accessible campus for our entire community during construction.  Please check this site often to see if construction issues affect you.

Construction Updates

Rendering of Student Counseling Center
NEW CONSTRUCTION - Student Counseling Center:

The Student Counseling Center will provide new space for the counselors who are currently located in Atkins Library. The new building will include individual meeting rooms as well as rooms for group therapy.


Installed the underground utilities, foundation, slab, steel frame, and roof.  Began interior framing, exterior framing, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations.

Rendering of new brick facade on Denny
RENOVATION - Academic Complex:

The Academic Complex, which includes Denny, Macy, Winningham, Barnard, and Garinger and was built in 1967, will receive an update to its mechanical, electrical, information technology, and plumping systems.  The project will also include window replacements and ADA modifications to meet existing code requirements.  Denny will also receive new brick fa├žade to match the other buildings.

Update Demolished all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing in Denny and began putting back new utilities.  Began installation of foundations for new brick cladding on Denny.
Estimated Completion  December 2018

Rendering of Burson Building
Scope The Burson Building, which was completed in 1985, will receive repairs and updates to its mechanical and electrical systems, new network cabling, and a new boiler building. Additionally a new elevator will be installed as well as interior modernizations to lecture halls and common areas.
Update The boiler building brick veneer is completed.  Minor infrastructure work is underway.

Rendering of Elm, Maple, Pine Halls
RENOVATION - Elm/Maple/Pine Halls:

The student residence building, which was built in 1987, will receive an update to its mechanical, electrical, information technology, and plumbing systems as well as interior modernizations.

The project will also include window and roof replacements and ADA modifications to meet existing code requirements. There will be substantial site work to include new underground HW/CW lines from the   recently construction Oak Hall Utility plant and other site amenities
to include retaining walls, walkways, and paving.

Update Continued installation of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing in the rooms.  Continued work on the elevator towers.  Began the foundation for the new Maple addition.

Light rail construction area
TRANSPORTATION - Light Rail LYNX Blue Line Extension:

The new light rail Blue Line Extension construction continues up North Tryon toward campus, while earthwork, track bed, and station work continues on campus.

Challenging traffic conditions along North Tryon between Old Concord Road and Institute Circle will continue.  Temporary lane closures should be expected daily between 9am and 4pm.  Drivers and pedestrians are continually encouraged to be alert and safe while driving/walking through this area.

Installation of the Campus Station sculpture is complete, and the station plaza installation continues.  Landscaping and lighting along the North Tryon corridor will soon begin.
