How Do I Become a FAM or Update FAMs for my Department in ARCHIBUS?

This information is for employees who need Financial Account Manager access or need to update their current personnel assigned to approve their department's Remibursable Work Requests or Motor Fleet Reservations within ARCHIBUS Web Central.

If you need to update departmental FAMs, please complete and submit a FAM Access Form to the Facilties Business Office. Information and step-by-step instructions are listed below:

Notes from Facilities Business Office (FBO)

  1. All Faculty and Staff have Archibus access; however, for a FAM account to be set up, a FAM Access Form must be submitted.
  2. Questions about the Financial Account Manager (FAM) Access Form please contact Noella Paquette at 704‑687‑0547
  3. Please send FAM Access Form via campus mail attention Noella Paquette to Facilities management - FBO
  4. FAM Access Form available in PDF Format (Must have at least Adobe 8.0) or use Excel (XLS) Format for those that have the older adobe version)
  5. While filling out the FAM Access Form, please remember to check off which role you are requesting (i.e. Primary FAM, Third FAM) before you submit the form so that FBO will be able to list your role correctly in the FAM list.
  6. If you currently do not have access to Archibus and or need your access roles updated, please contact Facilities Information Systems staff or submit your request via the HelpDesk Online

How Do I Create a Work or Service Request in ARCHIBUS?

What is a Work Request?

Work Requests are basic maintenance or repairs to keep the facility operational and safe. Examples include: lights burned out, heating temperature settings, housekeeping, etc.
Work requests can also include additional service requests that are outside normal day-to-day maintenance. Examples include: additional carpet cleanings or housekeeping requests, shelving construction, hanging whiteboards, file drawer construction, etc.


Creating a Work Request

1.  To Create a Work Request, log into ARCHIBUS online using your NinerNET user name and password.
2.  Click on the Building Operations Management activity; select the Customer role and then the Create a Work Request task.
3.  Once you have completed the fields and provided as much information as possible concerning your work request, select the Submit button.
4.  Your work request will be routed to the designated shop according to the problem type and building information provided.

How Do I Submit a Key or Card Access Request in ARCHIBUS?

Key/Access Requests forms are submitted electronically in ARCHIBUS.
The ARCHIBUS access request process provides the Lock Shop easier request tracking, card access and physical key assignment & processing and automated system email notifications to customers.

Please contact the Lock Shop at 704-687-0589 or 704-687-0588 for any questions about keys and card access.

To Submit a Key Request in ARCHIBUS:

  1. Log into ARCHIBUS using your Ninernet Credentials.
  2. After logging into ARCHIBUS, select Key Management module from the navigation list, and then click on the Request Room Access within the New Key Customer role.
  3. Select the New Request button located in the upper right corner of the Access Request windowpane. The form will display in the right windowpane for completion.
  4. You will need to filter and add the student or employee name to the Requested For field. Select SAVE in the upper right corner of the form. The Select Rooms view will display.
  5. On the Select Rooms view, filter for the building name and select the floor number from the dropdown to display the building floor plan. Click on the room(s) needed from the floor plan and then select Add Selected to save the room number(s) to the access form.
  6. After adding your room(s) and any comments, select Submit.
  7. The access request will be sent to the assigned Departmental Key Manager to approve.
  8. After the acess request has gone through the approproiate approval levels, the access request will be sent to the Lock Shop for processing.
  9. Once the access has been granted or the key is cut and the request has been processed by the Lock Shop, an email will generate for the individual to inform them that the card access has been granted or that they may pick up their assigned key, if a physical key was issued.

Apprenticeship Program

Who is eligible for this apprenticeship program?

The program is open to any candidate who meets the application requirements. This includes both existing UNC Charlotte employees as well as non-employees.

What previous trades experience is required to be considered for the apprenticeship program?

While no formal trades experience is required, if an applicant has completed any technical trades classes or has previous work experience, that information should be included, in detail, on the online application. These experiences will not necessarily expedite the four-year program, but will be taken into consideration.

What trades are offered through the apprenticeship program?

This program offers apprenticeships in the electrical trade with the goal of expanding to other trades in the future.

How many apprenticeship positions do you have open?

For this inaugural year, two apprenticeship positions will be hired into the program in the electrical trade.

How long is the apprenticeship program?

This apprenticeship is a four-year program that includes a combination of on-the-job training, technical education, and classroom instruction.

Is it possible to shorten the length of time for the apprenticeship?

As required by the North Carolina Department of Labor and ApprenticeshipNC, apprentices must complete a minimum of 144 hours of classroom instruction per year and 2,000 hours of on-the-job training per year for four years. However, on a case-by-case basis, it is possible for the program to be shortened if an apprentice has successfully completed some of the required classroom instruction and has previous work experience that is documented. It is important to note the first year of employment is considered probationary for all employees, so previous experience will not be considered until the probationary period is successfully completed.

What is the average salary for an apprentice?

Apprentices begin with an approximate salary of $26,375 plus a full benefits package. We also provide tuition reimbursement for coursework that is completed with satisfactory grades and attendance. Each year that you successfully complete classes, progress in learning more toward your trade, and complete other requirements, you may be eligible to receive a salary increase acknowledging that you are advancing as expected. By the time that you graduate from the program at the end of four years, you should be earning a salary that is comparable to other contributing-level staff.

Are those employed through the apprenticeship program eligible for the full time benefits package?

Yes.  As a full-time University employee, an apprentice will be eligible for benefits.

What are the typical hours of an apprentice?

Apprentices are required to work 40 hours per week in addition to classroom instruction. The typical schedule is from 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, though hours may vary.

What classroom instruction is required?

A minimum of 144 hours of classroom instruction are required each year throughout the four-year program in addition to a full-time work schedule. Apprentices will complete this educational requirement at Central Piedmont Community College, or another local community college with an appropriate electrical program. Class schedules vary, but apprentices are usually scheduled for two classes per semester. Apprentices are expected to successfully complete all courses by achieving satisfactory grades, excellent attendance, and a positive attitude. Progress will be monitored closely. Apprentices are subject to the rules and policies of the institution offering the classroom instruction.

How many nights per week are classes held?

Though it may vary among different community colleges, apprentices can expect to spend at least two nights per week in class.

What on-the-job training is required?

Apprentices are required to complete 8,000 hours of on-the-job training over the duration of the four-year program. This includes hands-on experience under the supervision of licensed journeymen, mentors, supervisors, and other professional tradesmen.

How is an apprentice evaluated?

Apprentices will be evaluated regularly by classroom progress reports, on-the-job training assessments, and evaluations completed by the apprentice’s mentor. Apprentices will also have the opportunity to provide feedback regularly.

What title is an apprentice eligible for at the end of the four-year program?

Those completing the academic work and job related training will be awarded a journeyman card from the North Carolina Department of Labor, as well as a certificate of completion from the community college.

What is the application process?

Will the apprentice be required to pay for their own tuition?

This apprenticeship dictates a reimbursement clause. The apprentice will be responsible for any upfront cost (tuition, books, etc.). This can be accomplished out of pocket, via scholarships, or other forms of payment. Upon successful completion of the semester, the UNC Charlotte Facilities Management Department will reimburse the apprentice for tuition. Successful completion of the semester includes: achieving a “C” or better, excellent attendance, and satisfactory behavior.

What are the application requirements?

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) certificate. Candidates must be able to meet the physical requirements for the trade and have a strong interest in building a career at UNC Charlotte. Education beyond high school is not required, though consideration will be given of all factors due to the competitive nature of this program. Previous work experience in the electrical trade is not mandatory.

Are apprentices who complete the program then eligible to apply for future promotions?

Yes. Opportunities for training are regularly available for employees to improve their skills and continuously grow in their area of expertise.

Building Environmental Services

When are the Academic / Administrative Buildings and offices cleaned?

Building Environmental Services (BES) cleans the Acadmeic buildings in three shifts:

  • 1st Shift - 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
  • 2nd Shift - 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM
  • 3rd Shift - 10:00 PM - 6:30 AM

BES has cleaning crews on schedules covering the campus

  • Sunday - Thursday
  • Monday - Friday
  • Tuesday - Saturday

* Offices are detail cleaned every Wednesday night.

What are the designer selection process and criteria?

Selection of designers for University projects follows the Designer Selection and Evaluation Procedures established by the State Building Commission (SBC).

Is HUB participation considered when selecting a design team?

No, HUB particiaption is not considered for Design team selection.
 

What are the Construction Manager at Risk selection process and criteria?

The University follows the procedure adopted by the State Building Commission in 2002.

Our construction firm is prequalified for construction with NCDOT and/or the State of North Carolina. Do we need to submit for prequalification on this project?

Yes. You will need to submit for pre-qualification to UNC Charlotte via the forms posted in the Advertisement.
 

Our construction firm prequalified with UNC Charlotte on another project. Are we prequalified to bid on this project?

No. Pre-qualification is done on a project-by-project basis.
 

Our construction firm is on the Job Order Contracting (JOC) list for UNC Charlotte. Are we prequalified to bid your project?

No. You will need to submit for pre-qualification on any construction project that we advertise on a project-by-project basis.
 

How are the pages in a submittal counted to verify conformance with the maximum pages requirement?

All information provided via hard copy should also be present in the digital submittal in a single PDF. 

The number of pages shown in the PDF file will be used as your submission's page count.
